What to expect at a session?
The general format for the Just Sit! sessions is two guided meditations, 20-30 minutes each in length, along with brief instructions and encouragement for developing and maintaining an ongoing daily personal sitting practice. Meditations may involve such ideas as developing patience, lovingkindness and compassion, but the overall and recurring emphasis will be on investigating our inner experience, learning to be present with whatever arises and meeting our experience with an open, kind and loving heart/mind.

All sessions are suitable for anyone. It is our intention to create space for meditators of any (or no particular) spiritual tradition, to come together and sit in stillness.

What to bring/wear?
If you have a meditation cushion or stool that you are accustomed to using, please bring it along. Sitting in a regular chair is recommended for beginners and even intermediate practitioners. Chairs are available at the space. No special clothing is required, but it’s good to be comfortable, so please avoid restrictive clothing.

What does “by donation” mean?
It means please offer what you can. Suggested amount is $10/week or $5/week for people who are full-time students, on a fixed income, or under-employed.

Do I need to pre-register?
Please drop-in. Pre-registration is not required.

Who is leading the meditations?

Jennifer Storey has been studying different restorative modalities for many years. Most recently, she has focused much of her energy deepening her personal meditation practice. Jennifer is inspired by her experiences to share the benefits and practice of meditation with others here in Guelph.

Heather Finlayson has been practicing and teaching meditation for 15 years. Heather is an independent (or is that interdependent?) graphic designer originally based in downtown Guelph. She has recently moved to Port Colborne, Ontario, but enjoys coming back occasionally for the weekly sessions.

Nicholas Mann is a long-time meditator and spiritual enthusiast who has been teaching meditation since 2010. Nicholas is a multi-faith chaplain and a registered psychotherapist. He lives and works in downtown Guelph and is keen to share his experience at the weekly sessions.
