Gentle Somatic Yoga Specialty Class

Friday, March 1, 2019 | 7–8:30pm
Stream Yoga + Meditation, 819 Weaver Rd, Port Colborne

Back by popular demand!

Enjoy a special 90-min class with visiting instructor Sandi Beaupre.

A style that blends together Somatic Education (in the tradition of Thomas Hanna), yoga and meditation. The practice fosters deep awareness of bodily sensations, co-ordination and proprioception from the inside out. Somatic Education is like giving your brain a software update. It teaches you how to free yourself from habitual stress responses and unhealthy holding patterns that inhibit your potential for free and easy movement.  It helps reverse chronic muscular pain by going to the root and affecting change at the central nervous system. The slow, mindful movement patterns will challenge your habits, and increase your awareness of self. Other benefits include improved posture, mobility, co-ordination, balance and stress resilience.

Cost: $25 (includes HST)
Please register by Feb 27th so that we can plan appropriately.

Pre-register by email hello@gentlydownthestream.org or call us at 905.401.YOGA (9642) or call/text Heather at 519.400.7862

Yoga Nidra Specialty Class

Friday, March 15, 2019 | 7–8:30pm
Stream Yoga + Meditation, 819 Weaver Rd, Port Colborne

Enjoy a special 90-min class with visiting instructor Julie Boyse of Journey 2 Balance.

Yoga nidra is a guided practice of deep relaxation into the liminal space between waking and sleeping. It is a more efficient and effective form of physiological rest and rejuvenation than sleep!

Traditionally, yoga nidra is practiced as a powerful method for releasing ourselves from our conditioned mental and emotional patterns (samskaras) — the psychological imprints or impressions that give rise to our repetitive thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Class will begin with some gentle yoga, and then we will arrange ourselves laying down comfortably, with props and blankets, and be guided to conscious relaxation of the body and mind.

Cost: $25 (includes HST)
Please register by March 13th so that we can plan appropriately.

Pre-register by email hello@gentlydownthestream.org or call us at 905.401.YOGA (9642) or call/text Heather at 519.400.7862

Clearly Knowing Day-Long Meditation Retreat

Saturday, March 23, 2019 | 9am–4pm
Stream Yoga + Meditation, 819 Weaver Rd, Port Colborne

When walking, standing, sitting, falling asleep, waking up, talking, and keeping silent one acts clearly knowing.” – Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta

Join us for a day retreat!

We will use basic buddhist practices of mindfulness and insight to investigate the nature of our experience. Our day will include periods of silent seated and walking meditations, instructions for practice (dharma), Q&A and discussion. Suitable for beginners and experienced meditators.

This workshop is designed as a ‘day-long intensive’ to complement the weekly meditation classes here at Stream. However, you do not have to have attended these classes to come and enjoy the retreat.

Sessions will be lead by Jacqueline Gilbey, who will be joining us from Arrive Yoga & Mindfulness, in Guelph, Ontario, and Heather Fenton.

Registration fee: $35* (includes HST)
Lunch and refreshments included.
Please register by Mar 21st, so that we can plan appropriately.

For more information and to pre-register: email hello@gentlydownthestream.org or call us at 905.401.YOGA (9642) or call/text Heather at 519.400.7862

* Your $35 registration fee covers lunch and the operating costs of the retreat. In the tradition of the Buddha, the teachers will offer instruction (dharma) freely and will be accepting donations. The practice of giving (dana) in this way happens on the side of the teacher when they share the teachings and their experience, and happens on the side of the student when they support the teachers, in accordance with their means. This practice also allows us to offer the retreat at an accessible cost. If the registration fee is still beyond your means, please let us know and we will do our best to arrange a scholarship.

If you’re curious, you can browse here through previous workshops and retreats we’ve offered.
“Ideally the ultimate retreat is to retreat from the past and the future, to always remain in the present.”
