Learning to Let Go
A DAY-LONG MEDITATION RETREAT

Spend the day with us in quiet contemplation. A day-long retreat can be surprisingly refreshing and insightful!
We will use mindfulness to investigate the nature of our experience: our day will include periods of seated and walking meditation, eating meditation (lunch), rest, instructions for practice (dharma), Q&A and discussion. We will practice silence in the supportive company of others. This retreat is suitable for new and experienced meditators.
“Learning to Let Go” will be an exploration of the connection between the feeling tone (vedana) of our experience and the development of craving and clinging. When pleasant feelings arise, we crave ‘more,’ when unpleasant feelings arise, we react with resistance, ‘craving/clinging’ to being rid of them as soon as possible, and when neutral feelings arise, we tend to ignore our experience, missing the opportunity to be fully awake and aware.
On retreat we’ll slow down and, with mindfulness, investigate the steady parade of feeling tones coming and going, and the consequent linking to thoughts such as, “I like this, I must have more!” or “I hate this, it must go/stop!” In seeing more clearly, and then learning to break this connection — between the feeling tone of the momentary experience and the arising of craving — there is a real opportunity for freedom.
This retreat is designed as a ‘day-long intensive’ to complement the weekly meditation classes here at Stream. However, you do not have to have attended these classes to come and enjoy the retreat.

Pre-registration: Pre-payment is required to secure your space. Payment can be made by interac email transfer, cash or cheque. Interac emails should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org (please email your security answer separately).
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you cancel on or prior to November 28, you will receive your registration fee back in full. If you cancel after this date, your payment can not be refunded. If the teacher or studio cancels this event for any reason, you will receive a full refund.

* Your $35 registration fee covers lunch and the operating costs of the retreat. In the tradition of the Buddha, the teachers will offer instruction (dharma) freely and will be accepting donations. The practice of giving (dana) in this way happens on the side of the teacher when they share the teachings and their experience, and happens on the side of the student when they support the teachers, in accordance with their means. This practice also allows us to offer the retreat at an accessible cost. If the registration fee is still beyond your means, please let us know and we will do our best to arrange a scholarship.
