“You have so many opinions. And you suffer so much from them. Why not let them go? ”
―
Join us for an 8-week meditation series. In this new year series we will emphasize cultivating freshness of mind through a daily practice of relaxation, inner stillness and insight. We will explore Buddha’s traditional teachings (dharma) in a way that is modern, simple, nondogmatic and practical; with a clear view to the ways in which we can use meditation and mindfulness to free our hearts and minds in the midst of our busy and stressful lives.
We will spend much of our time together in meditation, but leave time each session for a brief talk and for discussion and Q&A. You will be encouraged to spend time meditating at home between the weekly classes.
A simple joy is available to us any time that we can relax — regardless of our external conditions. In fact, learning to relax and be still may be the single most important thing we can do to improve our life, our relationships and ultimately our world.
Please NOTE: In this series, we’ll take inspiration from Bhante Gunaratana’s book “Mindfulness in Plain English.” You may wish to get a copy of the book, but it is not required reading, and you will also be just fine to simply come to sessions and relax.
Dates
January 9, 16, 23, 30, February 6, 13, 20, 27, 2019
Cost
$95 (includes HST) for the 8-week series (or $15 drop-in per class)
Pre-register by email hello@gentlydownthestream.org, call 905.401.YOGA (9642) or text Heather at 519.400.7862.
What to bring/wear?
If you have a meditation cushion or stool that you are accustomed to using, please bring it along. Bolsters, blankets, yoga mats and blocks are available at the studio. No special clothing is required, but it’s good to be comfortable, so please avoid restrictive clothing.
Can I drop in for one or two sessions only?
Yes! Classes are offered in a series but can also be considered to be ‘self-contained.’ Especially if you have come to previous series with us, and/or you are looking for a group of like-minded people to meditate with — it’s certainly appropriate to simply ‘come when you can.’ Drop-in fee is $15 (includes HST).

“The wonderful paradox about the truth of suffering is that the more we open to it and understand it, the lighter and freer our mind becomes. Our mind becomes more spacious, more open, and happier as we move past our avoidance and denial to see what is true. We become less driven by compulsive desires and addictions, because we see clearly the nature of things as they are.”
Joseph Goldstein, Insight Meditation: A Psychology of Freedom
